The Missing Diamond

Chapter 1 Rahul private detective

Rahul Sharma is a private detective who specializes in solving cases involving jewels and precious stones. He is hired by a wealthy businessman, Mr. Singh, who claims that his priceless diamond necklace has been stolen from his safe. Mr. Singh suspects that one of his employees or relatives is behind the theft, but he has no proof. He asks Rahul to investigate the case and find the culprit. Rahul agrees to take the case and visits Mr. Singh's mansion, where he meets his family and staff. He learns that Mr. Singh has a wife, Mrs. Singh, who is a socialite and a fashion designer; a son, Rohan, who is a spoiled brat and a gambler; a daughter, Ria, who is a rebellious teenager and a drug addict; and a nephew, Raj, who is an aspiring actor and a ladies' man. He also meets Mr. Singh's secretary, Priya, who is a loyal and efficient worker; his chauffeur, Ramesh, who is a former army officer and a skilled driver; his cook, Shanti, who is a cheerful and friendly woman; and his gardener, Ramu, who is a quiet and mysterious man. Rahul interviews each of them and tries to find out their alibis and motives for the theft. He discovers that none of them have a solid alibi for the night of the theft, which happened two days ago. He also finds out that each of them has a possible motive for stealing the diamond necklace: Mrs. Singh is unhappy with her marriage and wants to divorce Mr. Singh, but he refuses to give her any money or property. She could have stolen the necklace to fund her lavish lifestyle or to blackmail Mr. Singh into agreeing to her terms. Rohan is in debt to some shady characters who threaten to harm him if he does not pay them back soon. He could have stolen the necklace to sell it and clear his debts or to pay off his creditors. Ria is addicted to drugs and needs money to buy more. She could have stolen the necklace to exchange it for drugs or to pay her dealer. Raj is an unsuccessful actor who dreams of becoming a star. He could have stolen the necklace to impress some producer or director or to finance his career. Priya is secretly in love with Mr. Singh and wants him to leave his wife for her. She could have stolen the necklace to make Mrs. Singh look bad or to create trouble in their marriage. Ramesh is angry with Mr. Singh for not giving him a raise or a promotion despite his years of service. He could have stolen the necklace to get back at him or to quit his job Shanti is saving money to send her son to college abroad. She could have stolen the necklace to pay for his education or to help him with his expenses. Ramu is hiding something from his past that could ruin his reputation or land him in jail. He could have stolen the necklace to bribe someone or to escape from someone. Rahul realizes that he has eight suspects with eight motives, but no clues or evidence to narrow down the list. He decides to search the mansion for any signs of the theft or the necklace. He hopes that he can find something that will lead him to the thief. The chapter ends with Rahul starting his search in Mr. Singh's study, where the safe is located.
